One pair of pants cost $19.

James: 19 x 3 = 57 
             87 - 57 = 30 
James got 2 shirts thats why he spent $30.
Which means each shirt cost $15

Matthew: 19 x 2 = 38
                53 - 38 = 15
Matthew only got 1 shirt thats why he spent $15.

So shirts cost $15 and pants cost $19.
